Kate & Gramma January 24th

Gibsons in the fog shots

We had lots of snow followed by 20 days of fog. It made for a couple of good pictures though. The sunrise pictures are un-altered. There was cloud above and a bank of fog over the water. The colours of the sunrise bounced off both - it was really quite amazing.

To Calgary & Back - Christmas 2008

Edit: As bad as the driving was, I'm glad we returned when we did..... ALL the mountain passes are closed right now due to avalanches! (Jan. 8th)

I tried to get these pretty much in chronological order (top to bottom).

December 23rd - the day we were supposed to fly out!
This is the reason why we didn't!

Icicles at Horseshoe Bay (from the ferry).

The road trip has begun. January 24th, Rogers Pass.

One of a series of 7 snow tunnels.

Frozen water coming out of the rock face. I tried to capture the lovely glacial blue colour - difficult from a moving vehicle!

Blowing snow over the highway made vision tricky.

Christmas in Calgary - Kate's tree!

Breakfast at Dairylane....yummmmmmmm!

Calgary, Banff National Park, Radium & visit with Gramma

Kensington Road - Kate's neighbourhood. This was a very cold day!

The modeller brought something to do while the girls were shopping.

A Calgary alley.

Ducks trying hard to find an unfrozen pond in Shirley's neighbourhood in Calgary.

Not much activity in the playground at -22C!

Special dinner (paella) prepared by Shirley.

January 2nd, 2009, the trip home begins. Castle Mountain in Banff National Park.

Radium Hot Springs.
Entering Radium.

Gramma 3 days before her 92nd birthday. She was in a good mood!

The journey back to the coast.

Deer foraging at The Pines.

We stopped in town just long enough to pick up some treats at the bakery!

Fog near Creston on the way home.

Salmo-Creston summit. So much snow!

Scary high bridge at the Blueberry-Paulson summit.

Very Christmassy house in Grand Forks.

Brilliant blue sky. Cold but clear. Driving pretty good here, but it got much worse towards the end of the trip!

None-the-less, we made it home safe & sound thanks to Jake's good driving, the trusty old truck and a new pair of snow tires!
